"
The plants of cure never damage and still relieve... " Maurice -
Sylvain BINEAU
During
millennium, the use of plants was the main appeal of the man to fight
against the disease. It was as well the only point common to all the big
medical traditions of our planet: in China as in Europe, in Oceania as in
Africa; magicians, quacks and doctors knew always how to take advantage of
therapeutic properties of vegetables. But, bit by bit, one did not any
more content with recommending the use of plants such as one
found them in the nature: to be able to administer to the patients under
more practical and more effective forms, one began extracting the active
principles from it or alcaloïdes. Then, from the XVIIIè century, the
prodigious development of the chemistry allowed to make artificially
medicines the unmistakable efficiency of which pulled bit by bit
the decline of the old vegetable receipts: the therapeutics of synthesis
had been born. For some years, an increasing number of doctors and
pharmacologues rediscovers with interest the therapeutic value and the
harmlessness of the plant extracts. So is reborn the phytotherapy (from
phuton Greek, "plant") and one of its main branches, the aromathérapie
which uses vegetable essences.
Numerous
vegetables were of quite times used by the men, and it in a
empirical way. Indeed, the men had, at their arrangement, only not
enough means to look after itself, and they had very early got used to
going to harvest in the nature what was susceptible to cure them. The
Egyptian knew how to use numerous medications pulled by plants.
They knew how to anaesthetize by macerations of plants in wines. Later,
numerous doctors stated, in their works, plants which they used abundantly.
And so Hippocrate mentions more than 250 plants used in his
therapeutics. Dioscoride describes, in " of matéria médica ",
approximately 800. At Romans, Pline the Young person, Caton the Ancient
stated numerous plants and their medical applications.
" The garden is a pharmacy which we should use more often ",
wisely wrote Léon Binet.
The patient who wishes today to escape the influence of medicines of
synthesis, turns to a doctor who chose to look by Phytothérapie and
Aromathérapie. The medicine by plants is in no way a review, towards an
exceeded age: the doctor has to help him to establish his diagnosis,
besides the other means of natural origin, all the usual processes (blood
test, radiography, urine test).
The purpose of the active principles which will be afterward prescribed,
is évidement the same that that of the chemical medicines. But, the one
is complete and benefits from the complexity elaborated by the nature,
while the other one is simple, benefiting only from its virulence, which
can become exaggerated. The vegetable to act completely with force and
sweetness in the faith, it must be whole, provided with all the elements.
The natural product, to act, contains in its formula everything elements
necessary for its action. The various factors complement each other,
strengthen or moderate.
Briefly,
it is easy to understand that a vegetable being formed by very
numerous constituents, some of these last ones can have each a different
action such as:
- To
stimulate, - to tone up, - to be diuretic, - expectorant, - emetic, -
sudorific, - antisudoral, - antispasmodic, - tonicardiaque, - vermifuger,
- to purge, - to calm the pains or the cough, - to moderate the nervous
system, - in an action antiseptics...
The list would be too long knowing that in every troubles a treatment
should be adapted to the needs of the body to strengthen its own natural
immune systems, either by plants, or by vitamins, mineral salts, metals or
oligo-elements.
The different modes of preparation and use of plants appear of different
way such as:
-
Alcoolat: distillation
of the alcohol on a substance aromatic, used as ointments, gargles or eye
drops
- Alcoolature: extraction
of the active principle of the plant to allow a regular dosage.
- Alcoolé or
alcoholic paint: liquid
obtained by maceration of a fresh plant in a quantity of alcohol the
weight of which is 5 times that of the plant.
- Baths: absorption
by the skin of the active principles put down in the bath.
Treat the affections touching both the plan
physical and psychic through the skin and through the blood which absorb
aromatic essences.
- Cataplasms: thick
and wet Pastas, in the very variable constituents and what one
applies to a point of the body.
- The decoction:
obtained Solution when one
boils for a long time a plant.
- Essences: volatile,
nice-smelling and oily Extracts, called also essential oil. These essences
are extracted from the various parts of plants, mostly by
distillation.
- The fumigation:
a purifiante inhalation is by
its medicinal vapors.
- The gargle: make
penetrate into a liquid (infusion, decoction) in the mouth, or more
profoundly in the throat then after a more or less prolonged
contact one throws back the liquid.
- The oil: it
is about a maceration of plants made in some oil.
- The infusion (herb
tea): proceeded of
extraction of the principles essential of a plant, which consists in
subjecting some minutes one or several plants to the action of the boiling
water.
- The injection:
intended Liquid must to be
introduced into a natural or accidental cavity by means of a syringe.
- The rectal
injection: technique
consisting in injecting a quantity of liquid given in the anus.
- The lotion:
the liquid preparation
obtained by infusion which one uses in wash of the
sick part.
- The syrup: dissolution
of sugar in the water into which is incorporated the deliberate
therapeutic principle.
- The paint: liquid
obtained by the dissolution of the active principles of medicines in a
suitable liquid.
One can not quote all the virtues and the uses of plants but here is a
brief description of the uncountable benefactions that can offer us
natural mother.
We are a product of the nature and we should find in her all the vital
active principles, allowing us to obtain a good hygiene of life and
especially prosperity so physical as psychic.

necessary to neglect them, of numerous countries such as America, Germany,
included it and begin to understand that the man is not made that of a mortal coil, but that it is at the same moment a

being, but to try to get closer to it to understand the real
nature of certain diseases. One forgets not to name the
importance of the other alternative medicines such as: the acupuncture,
the homoeopathy, the Qi-gong, the ostéopathie, the oligothérapie, the

the climatology, the musicology, the yoga, the heliotherapy, the
